Love Comes Around
Again - Lyrics
Leavin' California
Last time I was leavin' California
Ya know I felt like maybe life was not so kind
The eucalyptus I had stolen as a perfume souvenir
Was locked in the trunk with a couple bottles of California wine
I'm screamin' down that interstate - it was a runaway state of mind
Now don't get me wrong - I know life is just poetry
And every verse a cosmic valentine
But when I unwrapped that eucalyptus in that Barstow motel
And took a pull on that bottle of California wine
I was confused and baptized at the very same time
Oh what am I supposed to do - how am I supposed to know
Oh why the hell did you ever let me go
So I took a long hot bath in that high desert daydream
And then I jumped back on I-40 in that dawn's early light
And now I'm parked in eastern Pennsylvania and I'm still baptized by confusion tonight
Well I can't say that I don't miss the desert and the ocean
God knows God knows I do
But these green rolling hills are beautiful too
You know its all just one big beautiful view
And I would rather be enjoying it with you
Oh what am I supposed to do how am I supposed to know
Oh why the hell did you ever let me go
And if I'm ever gonna lose these interstate highway blues
I gotta find a way to get back home to you
TROUBLE FREE
Talk to me baby - talk to me slow
Talk to me even if its touch and go
I can hear the warnings - but I can also see the light
Oh talk to me baby - I know you're gonna get it right
Talk to me baby - talk to me nice
Bring on that fire - let's melt some ice
Yeah I can hear the warnings - but that don't scare me tonight
Oh talk to me baby - I know you're gonna get it right
And when you visit my heart it's gonna be all sugar and cream
And we can be one body in that technicolor dream
Just you and me --- trouble free
Talk to me baby - talk to me please
I'm beggin' you baby - I am down on my knees
You are my magic - you are my heart's delight
Oh talk to me baby - I know your gonna get it right
SOFT TALKIN' BLUES
There is a gentle rain falling in that first gray light
It's an hour before sunrise and my dreams take flight
The weatherman says it's gonna burn off by noon
And it's gonna be another hot one today gonna be another hot one today
I just got back from the East Coast
It was a long way home and I was lost a time or two
But all along the way, there's angels on my shoulders
Wrapping me around with their soft talking blues Angels with their soft-talking blues
So it was four days on the Vineyard - I got real good friends out there
And we talked about the good old days and the memories we share
Then down the Jersey Turnpike through that New York City noontime
To the Pennsylvania hills and the home I left behind My family and the home I left behind
And I went to see my mother and my sisters and my brothers
And they fed me bread and wine and we ran down the years
And the children had to show me all their careful colored pictures
And their sweet flowing stories were just like music to my ears Stories just like music to my ears
Then I drove back up to Boston and caught the plane back to LA
And in this cool gray dawn these memories take my breath away
The home fires are burning, burning clean and bright
And it's gonna be another hot one today gonna be another hot one today
But all along the way there's angels on my shoulders
Angels on my shoulders and they're walking in my shoes
And all along the way, there's angels on my shoulders
Walking me around with their soft talking blues Angels with their soft talking bluest
SMOKY BLUE
He's a rainbow, he's a flower, and his beauty gives him power
To take a woman's soul and never give it back again
And I'm waiting to discover if I'm gonna be forever
Swimming in those eyes of smoky blue
And there are times when he asks me to stay there when he wants me
And I'll be there when he wants me anytime anywhere
Yes I'll be there when he wants me anytime anywhere
To go swimming in those eyes of smoky blue
And when he sends me dancing through the stars
And I'm whirling and I'm twirling up so high
I can feel the power within me - I could stay up there forever
Lost - in those eyes - of smoky blue
NOTHIN' BUT ME
Where is my cutting edge where is my certainty
Where has my heart song gone
Why is there only a portion of truth on the green front lawn
I can't find that roadmap to paradise
So I guess I'll just play it as it lays
But I hope there's not too many more miles
Till I find my state of grace
I watch with the eyes of a far-gone woman
But I feel with the heart of a child
And though I am expected to hide it
I am passionate, grieving and wild
Passionate, and wild ..in the jungle of my soul
Grieving,grieving..for the way you make me whole
Well no matter what's the final revelation
No matter if it's truth or if it's lie
No matter if it's really real or if it's just a dream drifting by
Still I can't imagine anything more beautiful
I can't imagine anything so fine
As you in this legendary moonlight
With nothing but me......in your heart...
in your arms....and on your mind
BARTO JAM
I'm a stranger in my kitchen a stranger in my bed
A stranger as I wander through the backrooms in my head
But there's this backwoods bar near where I live with this open mic jam
And when I walk in there - I remember who I am
Yeah jack starts it up with that killer Bo Diddley strum
And Karl holds that bass line down and Pattie nails the drums
Bobbie plays those keys like they's goin outta style
And I get to sing my heart out and I'm saved for a little while
It's the magic of that Thursday night Barto open-mic jam
That's when I remember who I am
You know we're all just kindred spirits on the lam
Jack and Glen and Joe and Chip trade leads and they get it just right
And the amps get way too loud sometimes but ya know what? -it's alright
We take a ride with Jack in that ---Pink Cadillac
Me and Wendy sing the back up and ooooo we like it like that
Then Alligator John walks in and takes the drums for a while
Slim the Revelator takes that mic and makes the whole world smile
and then Mayor Jay shows up -- with that big ol' trombone
and him and Wayne are gonna rock the house singin 'Everybody Must Get Stoned'
So come on over if you want to come on in if you dare
We'll all be there with bells on and we all love to share
And when we're all up in heaven and this world comes to an end
I hope we'll still be showing up for that Barto open-mic jam
Yeah we're finding our salvation in the 1-4-5
Kindred spirits - stayin alive
Midnight Conversation
It was a midnight conversation in that Philly train station
I just flew in from LAX and I was hungry to get back home
Before the snow flies - before my spirit dies
Before I miss that last train out and I'm stranded - empty-handed
Yeah I just flew in from LAX but that's another story
I'm feeling wiped out - tripped out - no power - no glory
I asked the guy behind the window if I was on the right track
He says yeah - no worries - that train's gonna take you back
He came out from behind the window he needed to pass some time
Needed to talk to somebody to ease his trouble in mind
He told me he was feeling low and a tear fell from his eye
I said I understood - I been through it - double time
Well you know how it is sometimes on a plane or a train
There's a stranger right there next to you - you share the sunshine and the rain
You hook up for just a moment before you move on down the road
You share the heart - you share the load
Just a midnight conversation in that philly train station
I didn't get his name - he didn't get mine
But we shared the moment - we shared the ride
It was a blessing - bonified
Yeah we shared that one sweet moment - it was like strawberry wine
It was a blessing - bonified
My Magic
When I first passed through New Mexico
I was deep....deep into my magic
It was the only way to travel - It was the only way to fly
But now I've hit that lean time
It's that well-known in-between time
And somewhere, somehow in that low down mean time
My magic slipped away
Just embraced me with a smile And walked away
It was the summer of '85 And I was nothing but alive
I was headed out to California -just makin love to the sky
Well LA sure has its pleasures -but I got hungry for that desert high
So I headed back to Albuquerque still makin love to the sky
Then my magic took a pass - and said goodbye
And you can go tell my mother And you can tell my father too
I don't always understand the lay of the land
But I am doing the very best that I can
And its alright you know its ok
I get these day jobs all along the way
I get real good friends to hang with and those bills are getting paid
But life ...life is so much sweeter when its got that magic touch
And the angels clear the path through that scratchy underbrush
Ya know that scratchy underbrush
And I'm hoping right around the corner - Just up around the bend
My magic will be waiting just to take my hand again
And we'll go dancing all the way - to that promised land
LET'S COUNT ON LOVE
Everybody wants to sing from the bottom of the heart
Nobody knows Just when and where to start
Everybody wants to walk that one true path
With the friends the lovers and the heart
We fall into the mystery the puzzle we try to solve
It's a tough row to hoe so we gotta fall back on love
We are looking for the answers the reasons the cures
And even when we find 'em we're still not so sure
So right here right now lets count on love
Let's count on love Let's give it a try
Let's count on love Before it passes us on by
I got - so many things on my list of things to do
So many schemes and dreams that may or may not come true
But I know... when love ... comes a-knockin on my door
I'm good to go - ready to go - beggin for more and more
I'll Jump the gun without asking why -shoot for the top of the sky
Ready to rock - ready to roll -- ready to sanctify -- my soul
So right here right now let's count on love
Let's count on love Let's give it a try
Let's count on love Before it passes us on by
Right here right now lets count on love.
Ready to laugh, ready to cry, ready to dance ready to try to fly
So right here....right now let's count on love
TIME TO GO
Time to go time to go sometimes s' time to go
My old friend John - he was a buddy and a soul mate
My true blue partner and so much more
They called me yesterday from Albuquerque
Told me he had died the night before
Time to go time to go I guess it was his time to go
They found him alone- all alone in his bed
And by his side - a half-a-bottle of wine
They said that he suffered no pain when he died
On the box he had been playing John Prine
He liked to do a little woodwork in his own way and time
To sing and dance and walk the mountain path sublime
He worked those day jobs till they was all used up
And then I guess he just decided it was time
Time to go time to go i guess it was his time to go
A couple of weeks ago he sent a package in the mail
From the land of enchantment sweet and good
A rosary made of roses, El Nino on a candle
And the Guadalupe virgin carved in wood
So via con dios my dear sweet friend
You know our love is always true
Via con dios my darling
You know my love goes with you
Time to go time to go sometimes it's time to go
Time to go ....time to go... I guess it was ..your time...to go
